Google Tech Exchange

Google Tech Exchange

Google Tech Exchange is a program designed to increase the representation of underrepresented groups in the tech industry. The program is a partnership between Google and Howard University, where students take part in a semester-long virtual program conducted by Googlers. The program includes applied computer science courses, mentorship from Google engineers and faculty, career development support, and the opportunity to build a strong community network within the tech field. Students also work on a capstone project that addresses a real-world problem using technology.

Orientation @ Mountain View

From the moment I checked into Bay View Suites, it was non-stop action. The orientation itinerary was packed, but they also had optional activities peppered in. I jumped on the chance for a gBike ride (Google's own bikes) and a guided tour of the campus – it's like a mini-city!

Over the next few days, we dove into keynote speeches, icebreakers, and deep dives into topics like the Google hiring process and the detailed world of product management. We had a chance to visit the legendary Googleplex, which was just as awe-inspiring as you'd expect. Our schedule even included a few fitness breaks, which was a huge help after all those hours of travel.

Orientation week wasn't all work and no play. Our final day included a trip to San Francisco, complete with a group photo under the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. Exploring the city and a scavenger hunt gave us a taste of the Bay Area's energy. The cherry on top was the Warriors game – what an experience!
